Set in the heart of the picturesque sleepy village of Charly, within 32-acres of private walled gardens, Park Chateau offers the perfect escape from the hectic pace of modern life. The elegant and comfortable suites all have stunning views of the parkland surrounding the Chateau. Originally, the site was home to an ancient monastery which was decimated during the French Revolution; all that remains are the huge old gates with their coat of arms carved into the stone.

Inside

  • Style: Built in 1839, the chateau has been fully restored and completed for the first time in its history, by its present owners, to marry elegance and character with comfort and convenience.
  • Bedrooms: There are five large double suites with potential to add extra beds for children. All of the suites are beautifully appointed with period furnishing, formal wallpapers and curtains, coverlets and cushions to complement the elegant style. Large comfortable beds covered in crisp linen and hand woven rugs complete the sumptuous feel. Attractive tall windows fill the bedrooms with light from which you can enjoy the fantastic views. All the suites have spacious private bathrooms, which feature huge separate showers, roll top baths and twin sinks.
  • For relaxation: Soak in roll top baths with a glass of wine in hand while taking in the views of the park. If you want to treat yourself, choose from a selection of in-house beauty treatments – from massages to pedicures - available by request.
  • For recreation: Choose from garden games, take an explorative walk around the grounds, or explore the local area on two wheels – there are bicycles for your use at the property. Alternatively, you can work up a sweat in the gymnasium.

Outside

32 acres of private walled gardens including many old features with working wells and bread ovens a period coach house and out buildings. There is an extensive orchard and path ways through the woodland areas. On the perimeter of the grounds is a 12th Century church, one of only ten examples in France with painted ceilings. An outdoor pool is on hand to cool off from the summer sun.

Food and Wine

  • DIY: For house party bookings, there’s a modern range style gas and electric cooker with double oven. Fridge Freezer, washing machine, microwave, food processor, juicer etc...
  • In-house cuisine: Feast on fresh fruit, crusty French bread, homemade jam, delicious pain au chocolat and homemade pancakes for breakfast. If you opt to dine in-house of an evening, expect delicacies such as pear, walnut and Roquefort tart with rocket sauvage and walnut oil dressing, followed by strawberry and kiwi pavlova with raspberry coulis, as well as a plethora of local cheeses to tempt you.
  • Eating out: Several restaurants within 10-15min drive from the Chateau

Getting there

  • On the map: Park Chateau is 35km from the city of Bourges and 10km from the town of Nerondes
  • By car: The journey from London to Dover is 1 1/2hours. The journey from Calais is 5 1/2 hours.
  • By train: Take the Paris metro to Gare d' Austerlitz for trains to Bourges or Gare de Lyon for trains to Nevers. The Chateau is between Bourges and Nevers, being the closest mainline stations both of which are approx 35min drive away. The owners are able to arrange transport from Bourges for you on request or car hire is available at either station. It is also possible to use a limited train to Nerondes which is a 10min drive from the Chateau.
  • Airports: Paris, Poitiers and Limoges are all approx 3 hours drive; Tours and Clermont-Ferrand - 2 hours drive
  • Heli-pad: Possible to land Helicopter anywhere within the grounds.

Out and About

  • There are five golf courses, fishing lakes, horse riding, kayaking and canoeing within easy driving distance of the property.
  • Visit the beautiful medieval city of Bourges with its world famous cathederal.
  • Visit the Sancerre , Menetou Salon, Reuilly and Chateaumeillant vineyards for wine tasting tours.
  • Some of the finest porcelain in France is produced in La Borne. There are 50 workshops open to the public as well as a museum.
  • Visit many of the Chateaux and formal gardens such as Apremont sur Allier.
  • Take your own car, or let the owners organise track days and karting at Magny Cours and Lurcy- Levis.
